It occurred to me that most blogs contain lots and lots and LOTS of words. Mine won't. My plan is to use my blog as an ongoing exhibit of the pieces I'm working on and each time I have a new creation (even if it's already SOLD, I'll add it to the collection of pictures and hopefully give you additional ideas of how endless the options are.
Over the years I've gained inspiration from many, many sources and they deserve credit. The first being the State of Massachussetts Department of Unemployment.....if it hadn't been those 6-7 months of job searching and having more time on my hands than I knew what to do with, well......
A friend named Sophie showed me some rings made from tiny little seed beads she was working on and while the thought of using those tiny little things didn't appeal to me in the slightest, it did spark the idea that while I have a strong love for jewelry and pretty things in general, I didn't really have the money to spend on them. So, I started scrounging around my house and found the proverbial button jar....mine just so happened to be a Mason Jar for canning (also used at my house as every day drinking glasses, spice holder, rice holder, nut holder, etc, etc, etc.....anyway, back to the buttons.
Once I realized that I actually already had some pretty fun stuff I could use to create jewelry, art, and other little fancy bits I was off and running (at least in my head). After a trip to the "button district"....yes, in New York City there is an entire 8-10 block radius in midtown dedicated to buttons, I was on my way and forever changed.
So, it started with hair clips and rings and now (thanks to an incredibly talented Australian friend) I've branched out into necklaces and have found a pretty fantastic niche by using old vintage brooches, clip-on earrings, necklaces (taken apart of course) to create these one-of-a-kind vintage button necklaces with tons of fancy bits incorporated. I'm having the time of my life creating them and appreciate all the support so far.
